PostSubject: Baofeng programming question   Wed Jul 02, 2014 1:04 pm

Okay trying to program my UV-5R by keypad without chirp, and some interesting discrepancies arose. Using the same frequency step on both radios I find they would round up or down to a frequency and not the actual frequency I am trying to enter; i.e. 462.5625 becomes 462.550. That's not the most interesting, the radios would round to a different frequency; i.e. 462.550 on radio A and 462.560 on radio B, yet the same frequency step is being used (5khz). So my question then, what the heck am I doing wrong?

try using the arrow keys after adding the frequency, press up or down depending on if you need to go higher or lower..

Thanks for the tip Merchant, that helps get them on the same frequency. Still scratching my head as to why they went their separate ways to start with though.

What you want to do is set your 'step' function to 2.5. The Radio will always round to the nearest 'whole' number, just a quirk of the radio. Not exactly sure why yours would round up on one, down on the other, but there it is. Again, 2.5 will allow you to hit the numbers you're looking for. Any other questions, you can fire them my way; I've programmed a lot of the baofengs for people, now. If you're still having troubles, you can always come find me and I can show you how, face to face.

Thanks for the help Jukebox. I realized after I posted that I used the wrong frequency step but I think the channels are all good to go now.
